In June of 2022 we answered the question, “Which local facility could possibly accommodate a vast, multi-storied, high tech, light and sound entertainment spectacular?” Since then, Armory Studios NY has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors from near and far to be mesmerized by Van Gogh, The Immersive Experience. The magical show, continuing its run that included Paris and New York City, has brought joy to the citizens of New York’s capital region and those from far beyond. Restaurants, hotels and shops alike have benefitted by this influx of art tourists as the Expo proved to be one of those rare productions, one designed to bring the joy of art appreciation to everyone of all ages and backgrounds.
From young families with their strollers in tow, to bestie outings, to company field trips, to groups of seniors with walkers, from patrons from the region and nearby states, to visitors hailing from New York City and even the EU, Van Gogh Expo made Schenectady’s Armory Studios NY the region’s newest, must-visit, entertainment destination.
For all of this to happen, immersive entertainment requires immersive community support. From parking lot access, to road improvements and much, much more, Van Gogh Expo would never have been possible without the encouragement and support offered by Discover Schenectady, Schenectady Metroplex, the office of Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy and of course Schenectady County.
With this assistance our recently upgraded 2,000 amp, 3 phase electrical service can meet the demands of any future production or audience and with 225 tons of AC/ climate control, we are able to keep the million cubic feet of Studio A at the perfect temperature, no matter the weather.
Completed just in time for the opening of the Van Gogh Expo, our 15 vehicle ADA parking lot, just a few steps from our handicap accessible lobby, restrooms and elevator, is testimony to what we were able to achieve for the community and in record time.
Schenectady lies at the epicenter of New York’s vibrant Capital Region and the beautiful art Deco Armory Studios NY is located in the heart of Schenectady. Something you may not know is that ASNY remains dedicated to its role as The Capital Region’s largest dedicated, qualified Sound Stage. In coordination with Film Schenectady, production of Amazon Prime’s hit series Modern Love made Armory Studios NY its studio of choice. This production took full advantage of ASNY’s available 90,000 square feet, transforming our cavernous Studio A, former officers’ quarters, storage spaces and mess halls into a bustling slice of Hollywood. In 2022, HBO MAX arrived and this time, Studio A swallowed up a complete, operational and suspenseful carnival for Pretty Little Liars Original Sin.
During the run of Van Gogh Expo, the remaining 60,000 square feet of our facility has remained available for productions from major studio big, to Indie small. Stay tuned for news of additional, production supporting developments. There is no better home-base for any regional production than Armory Studios NY.
